Ingredients
  

  • 6 cups cubed bread day-old works best
  • 3 ripe bananas mashed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips or nuts optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  • Arrange bread cubes in the baking dish.
  • In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir in mashed bananas.
  • Pour the mixture over the bread, pressing down to ensure even absorption.
  • Sprinkle with chocolate chips or nuts if desired.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden and set.
  • Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

Use brioche or challah for an extra-rich texture.
