Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (100g) brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60ml) water
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 1 tsp (2g) ceremonial grade matcha powder
- 2 oz (60ml) hot water
- 1 cup (240ml) oat milk
Instructions:
- Combine brown sugar, water, and a pinch of salt in a small saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture reaches a gentle simmer.
- Simmer for 3–5 minutes until the mixture thickens into a syrupy consistency that coats the back of a spoon.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract; set aside to cool slightly.
- Sift the matcha powder through a fine-mesh sifter into a bowl or cup to remove clumps.
- Add 2 oz (60ml) of hot water (approximately 175°F/80°C) to the sifted matcha.
- Use a handheld frother or whisk in a 'Z' motion for 30 seconds until a thick, frothy layer of bubbles forms.
- Pour 2–3 tbsp of the prepared brown sugar syrup into the bottom of a glass.
- Add oat milk to the glass, followed by the frothed matcha slurry to create distinct layers.
